Desalination Breakthrough?

Here's a tidbit Andrew Burton came across on www.instapundit.com:

Nanotechnology may soon give cruisers less power-hungry desalination plants. Researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have discovered that water molecules flow easily through carbon nanotubes while the ions that make up salts are rejected.
