Jeanneau Lays Claim to the Bitter End

We hiked up Guy's Trail for a better view of the Jeanneau raft-up at the Bitter End Yacht Club.

Twenty-five Jeanneaus of all sizes—several sailed by their owners and others chartered from Sunsail in Tortola, the British Virgin Islands—faced a gusty beat up Sir Frances Drake Channel Monday, but the reward was the turquoise waters of Virgin Gorda’s North Sound, a delicious buffet at the Bitter End Yacht Club, and an evening with Tania Aebi, who recounted her historic coming-of-age solo sail around the world.

Trade winds—strong for this time of year—blew through the night, a refreshing break for the sailboats rafted at the Bitter End’s docks.

Tuesday morning, Erik Stromberg, Jeanneau’s manager of sailboat production, hosted coffee and fielded questions from owners, then the crowd set off for a hike up Guy’s Trail behind the club before gathering for a small boat regatta in the afternoon, hosted by Sailing World. Owner rallies are always fun. But in the B.V.I., well, this gathering hosted by Jeanneau America is pretty darned near perfect. Want to see proof? Check out today’s photo gallery and check back through the week for updates, as island WiFi connections allow.
