Longer and beamier than the Bavaria 37 it replaces, the Bavaria 38 Cruiser offers a lot of elbowroom for a boat of its size. The mast is stepped well forward so that its compression post doesn't dominate the saloon, and in the two-cabin layout the entire space forward of it is dedicated to the V-berth stateroom. The head is aft and is roomy enough to have hooks for hanging wet gear.

In the three-cabin arrangement, the head takes space from the forward cabin, though this remains generous. The large nav desk and compact galley retain similar proportions in both layouts.

J&J Design has livened up the coachroof styling with some added contours, a molded recess to house the dodger, and larger opening ports in the trunk sides. A cockpit table is integrated with the instrument pod and centerline steering console.

Bavaria also offers this model with a shoal-draft tandem keel.
