Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 50 DS: A Mini Review
Jeremy McGeary reviews this deck saloon cruiser for the CW 2009 Sailboat Show

By Jeremy McGeary (More articles by this author)
Built on the same Briand-designed hull as the Sun Odyssey 49i, the 50 DS shares many of its interior components. The forward and aft layout options are essentially the same, but the big difference is the saloon, which is elevated one step to take advantage of the headroom and light afforded by the Garroni-designed bubble deck house. The galley is tucked securely to starboard and the nav desk shifted to port, where it complements a writing desk and another settee.

The DS deck raises the cockpit, and permits the seating to be extended forward where a pair of snug corners can be made even more cosy with the addition of a dodger. Wide side decks are unimpeded by the shrouds, which are set inboard so as not to hinder close trimming of the genoa for windward work.

A double anchor roller adorns the stemhead and a large hatch in the foredeck gives access to a huge locker for stowing such bulky essentials as fenders.
