The Moorings is hosting a book drive for local children of the Bahamas and hopes to expand the program to other locations.

Yacht charter company The Moorings is currently hosting a book drive at its corporate headquarters in Clearwater, Florida, for the children of Hopetown Primary School located in Elbow Cay, Abaco Bahamas. The school was founded in 1893 and educates children from kindergarten through the sixth grade.

The book drive was developed after Vinny Mattiola, a recent charter guest of The Moorings, and his crew took time to visit the school and donate over 200 books during a sailing vacation through The Bahamas.

“We were delighted to find so many books waiting for us,” said Hopetown Primary Principal Justin Higgs. “Thank you so much. The kids said it felt like Christmas!”

The Moorings’ book drive will continue through Friday, July 18. Donated books will be sent to The Moorings base in The Bahamas, and then delivered to the school on a bareboat yacht excursion hosted by Mattiola from August 16 through 22.

“This is just the start. We plan to continue hosting book drives for local schools for all of our different bases,” said Shannan Brennan, Head of Global Marketing for The Moorings. “We’re incredibly proud to give back to these local communities that have given so much to us.”
