When the WaterLight goes dim, recharge its 3.6-volt Lithium battery with the built-in crank handle.
Here's something that came in the mail the other day: It's a bright LED flashlight from Life Gear. Instead of merely providing a storage place for dead batteries this torch contains a 3.6-volt rechargeable Lithium battery—and simply giving a few turns on a foldout handle on the body charges it.

The WaterLight .5 Watt Max is about the size of a regular flashlight that takes a couple of D cells, but is considerably lighter. So light, in fact, that it floats. The company says it's waterproof to 33 feet down, too. The beam is so good, and the unit so light, that it'll go in my seabag next time I head offshore and we'll see how it stands up to being salty and wet for a few weeks.
