Get Out on the Water in San Francisco Bay
OCSC reaches out to the community with weekly evening sails.
It’s a typical Wednesday in spring and Anthony Sandberg is doing what he loves best: welcoming everyone he can to sailing.
“Want to come?” he asks.
Sure do! Who wouldn’t want to hop aboard for an evening run while making new friends and feasting on chili and beer?
It’s among the sure-fire ways the president and founder of OCSC Sailing on San Francisco Bay at Berkeley, California, has grown the 32-year-old school and membership club to a 50-boat strong fleet. The operation has graduated nearly 30,000 students over the years and enjoys an annual 10 percent growth rate, according to Sandberg. “I go for big chunks of people,” says the former Peace Corps volunteer and inveterate traveler.
