Bruno Peyron and Maxi-Cat Orange Win Jules Verne Trophy
Bruno Peyron and his 12-men crew aboard maxi catamaran Orange crossed Brittany’s Ile d’Ouessant finish line with a Jules Verne Trophy, nonstop round-the-world sailing record of 64 days, 8 hours, 37 minutes, and 24 seconds on May 5.
Peyron and Orange, averaged more than 18 knots over the 28,035 nautical-mile Ouessant-to-Ouessant course via the three major capes, Good Hope (South Africa), Leeuwin (Australia) and Horn (Chile). Peyron and his crew beat Olivier de Kersauson’s former record by 7 days, 5 hours, 44 minutes, and 44 seconds.
The Orange men also broke seven intermediate records :
1- Ouessant to Good Hope in 18 days, 18 hours, and 40 minutes
2- Ouessant to Cape Leeuwin in 29 days, 7 hours, and 22 minutes
3- Cap Leeuwin to Cape Horn in 12 days, 19 hours and 30 minutes
4- Ouessant to Cape Horn in 42 days, 2 hours and 52 minutes
5- Ouessant to equator in 53 days, 4 hours and 49 minutes
6- Equator to Ouessant in 11 days, 3 hours and 48 mn
7- Cap Horn to Ouessant in 22 days, 5 hours and 45 minutes
