Summering (or wintering) in Chattanooga

There must be hundreds of boats that spend the winter in George Town or Marsh Harbor, then head up to the Chesapeake for the hurricane season. Once in a while, we see somebody here in Chattanooga willing to try something different--come up to Tennessee and you'll see why! Chattanooga is a great place to visit by boat, one of the best we saw in all of our cruise of the entire East Coast. Although the public docks downtown don't have showers and aren't free, Chattanooga's downtown is a great stop. The scenery here is as good or better as you'll find anywhere south of Maine. And by the way, the distance across the Gulf and up the TennTom is about the same as going up through Norfolk. There are plenty of places to anchor, but Sale Creek Marina on the Tennessee River is a great place to stay at just 50 cents/foot. It's our home port, and I heartily recommend it.
