we circumnavigated the carribbean waters in two years on our 38 ft sailboat. During our travels our watermaker had taken a fritz and we were collecting delicious water rain for cooking and bathing. The most beautiful islands were in Panama the San Blas. The Kuna people were very friendly and most welcoming. We certainly had our share of lobster and crab during our journey and I savour the memories.  We had some boat problems of course as to be expected during our travels and of course ran into a few storms. Would i do this again...you may ask?  Yes, we are planning our second trip in a few more years ......studying spanish is a must....we purchased a restoration project a 40 ft ketch ....back to work and saving a cruising kitty. The next trip will take us through the Panama Canal .............this next trip I really know what to take and and what to leave behind.  A wee bit of advise the best way to wash a small amount of clothing ...while taking a shower. Your clothes will come out smelling and feeling clean...not salt water left on the clothing. Just lather the clothing gently with your feet and then rinse.....how easy is that......... :)
