Surprise: You can have generous accommodations in a boat that performs well. Some catamarans have a reputation for slowing way down by the time you load up the hulls with three or four double staterooms and provide headroom, tankage, and systems for cruising. The Lipari 41 is designed to provide performance advantages over most cruising monohulls and multihulls of the same length, and the cat's bright, clean-lined interior supplies more than just the necessities. The owner's-version master cabin spans a hull, with queen-sized berth aft, vanity desk and lockers amidships, and large head forward, but the boat remains relatively light, thanks to cored hulls and a coachroof reputed to be the largest injection-molded part in the world. With its powerful square-topped mainsail, the Lipari blasted along at nearly 10 knots on a reach in 22-knots of wind, and it tacked effortlessly, even from reach to reach.
