Prout 50: Mini Review
Jeremy McGeary reviews this seakindly cat for the CW 2009 Sailboat Show.
Prout Catamarans today operates under the umbrella of an international company that also manufactures interiors for corporate jets and has plants in the Far East. Some of the materials and technologies serve boats and planes equally well, especially when it comes to assembling components within structures where space and weight are both at a premium.
The Prout 50 benefits from this symbiosis and from the traditions of solid seakeeping that adhere to the Prout name. Its offered with a choice of layouts to suit personal or charter use within a framework of bulkheads integrally bonded to the hulls and the deck to support the torque and mast loadings inherent in cats.
An elevated conning station gives the skipper full control of the sails and a clear view around. Inside, the large saloon incorporates the galley and lounging and dining areas while the hulls accommodate up to four double cabins.
