After Folly, a 39-foot aluminum pilothouse sloop owned by John and Kerry Pears, was flung two boatyards away, a recovery crane dismasted it during lifting. Amid the confusion, the couple filed this report about the island’s state of affairs since the storm struck the U.S. East Coast on October 29, 2012.

The Pears' sailboat, Folly, was one of the many victims of superstorm Sandy. "Thankfully we got off Folly safely to take refuge in a motel, as she was washed ashore at the neighboring marina, still attached to the floating dock, at the height of the storm."
