Rally for a Good Time

A fun-oriented distance race has been added at two venerable West Coast sailing regattas this spring.
North Rally Race NOOD Regattas

If you’re a West Coast sailor looking for some fun on the water, camaraderie on the docks and a heck of a party to wrap things up, North Sails and Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regattas have teamed up to present North Rally Races during NOOD regattas in San Diego (March 15) and Seattle (May 17).

The Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regattas are a nationwide series of weekend races that have traditionally focused on round-the-buoys one-design and PHRF-handicapped sailing. (For full disclosure, the NOOD Regattas are an offshoot of our sister publication, Sailing World.) To broaden the field, a one-day, fun and family-oriented distance race has been added at these two venues this year. In the North Rally Race, randomly set buoys and/or navigational marks are used and the race is less about hard-core windward-leeward legs and more like a rally with a party at the end.

At either event, a $55 entry fee and current PHRF certificate (available through your local yacht club or PHRF fleet) gets you in the door. There’s a skipper’s meeting in the morning, a race in the afternoon and your entry fee includes access to the North Sails party in the evening and two complimentary drink tickets for skippers and crew.
