My office! I built this table from Wenge and Sepelle!
I was always hitting my knees on the old table support, and when the table was dropped, it still left the support section up along the isle. It was always in the way and you had to climb around it. The only advantage was that on a rough crossing, it kept you from falling out of the bed, if you needed a 3rd cabin?
This design has an octogon shaped pedestal that is attached with 8 rubber threaded handles. The top and bottom mounting boards are the exact height of the space under the dropped table when laid on its side. The edges have rubber t-edges installed to not damage the floor. The laid down pedestal gives additional support to the table/ TV Pit. We have also learned that Dollar Store shelf liners keep the cushions from moving around. When dropped.... we call it our TV pit and have a flat panel TV that mounts easily on the teak shelf edge.
