When it came time to scoop up the $30,000 top prize in the Interlux Waterfront Challenge, members of Sea Scout Ship 41 from Bay Village, Ohio, came up with the perfect tool: a unique flotsam scoop. Last summer, the scouts designed and built prototypes and then tested the tools aboard their 36-foot flagship ketch, Mariner. Besides creating a set of tools to achieve their goals, they helped educate the community about environmental issues through a trade show booth, an online blog, and a YouTube video.
