Tania Aebi will launch a rally from New York City to Bermuda June 15, 2008. The sailor, who in 1987 became the youngest woman to circumnavigate solo, has teamed up with racer, cruiser, and event organizer Dan Goldberg of Mamaroneck, New York. They’ll accept applications from the first eight boats and crews to sign up for the rally, which they hope to turn into an annual event.

“Tania and others can provide the extensive offshore experience that will make this event not just work, but turn into a success,” says Goldberg, who’s organized races, annual cruises, and weekend cruise/raftups for his local club.

Aebi, Goldberg, and marine technician Toby Murrah will conduct boat inspections and provide services as well as arrangements for the trip, which shoves off from the docks at the Lincoln Harbor Yacht Club (www.lincolnharbormarina.com) and arrives at Bermuda Yacht Services (www.bermudayachtservices.com) in St. George’s Harbour, Bermuda.

Participating boats will receive satellite phones and participate in daily conference calls as well as receive weather and routing updates from meteorologists Jenifer and Dane Clark (www.erols.com/gulfstrm). Family and friends can monitor boat positions via iBoattrack (www.iboattrack.com). The entry fee is $2,000, which includes everything except phone usage charges.
