Charter Photo Contest Results: Caribbean Gloom

The winning submission presents an ordinarily carefree place in a foreboding light. "Chartering" from our September 4, 2008, CW Reckonings

No charter vacation in the British Virgin Islands would be complete without a stopover at the Baths, a rocky, aquatic playground located on the southern tip of Virgin Gorda. Because the Baths are so popular, photos of them turn up frequently here at Cruising World, making the destination a tough sell for CW’s photo-contest judges. But community member alcyone managed to present this familiar place in an unfamiliar way with “The Baths.” In the photo, a woman treads water beneath the shadow of an ominous cloud, the normally crowded beach in the background nearly deserted. CW’s jaded judging corps so appreciated alcyone’s gloomy take on this perky picnic spot, they have named it “Best Charter Photo.”

Congratulations, alcyone, and thanks to everyone who contributed photos!

The judging panel included CW senior editor Mark Pillsbury, CW associate editor Kitty Martin, and online production manager Lisa Julius.
