A Flotilla for Sailors Who Drink Nelson’s Blood
To mark its 10th anniversary, the Horizon Yacht Charters base on the Caribbean island of Antigua offers a 14-day rum-cruise sailing flotilla. The package, aimed at sailors and nonsailors, whether on charter boats or their own, leaves Antigua on May 9, 2008, with cruising guides Paul and Marguerite Jackson leading the 200-mile voyage through the Leeward Islands. The group will visit a variety of rum distilleries, sampling the spirit on the way, and end the cruise in St. Lucia on May 23.
"United by a passion for sailing, scenery, and rum, guests will love the simple formula of tremendous sailing, new friends, scenery, and great fun," says Jackie Ashford of Horizon Antigua. "Where else will you be able to see Antigua's Royal Naval Tot Club in action on one day, swim in Dominica's Emerald Pool on another, and learn about the traditional art of rum making the next?"
Rates to charter a yacht for the full two weeks run from $5,850 to $8,550. For a group of six, this can translate to as little as $975 per person for the full charter. Skippers are available, starting at $150 a day, for those who like to have someone on board to help guide them through the islands or for nonsailors who prefer to let someone else take the helm. Sailors aboard their own boats can join by paying an $850 entry fee. To find out more about the package, contact the Horizon reservations team (www.horizonyachtcharters.com/antigua/antigua_happening.
