A pullover designed for IRC racers keeps cruisers warm, too. "Gear and Gadgets" from our November 30, 2007, CW Reckonings

Sam Thornton models the Numbers Softshell during a recent delivery to the Virgin Islands.

Atlantis Weather Gear presented me with their new Numbers Softshell pullover to try on a recent delivery from Newport to the Virgin Islands. Designed for the racing crew on the new IRC 66-footer Numbers, it lends itself well to cruisers and offshore sailors, too.

It's lightweight, stretchy, waterproof, windproof, and breathable. And it's lined with micro fleece so it's very comfortable, too. Because it's designed to stand up to race-crew abuse, cruisers will find it exceptionably durable.

I found the pullover useful in a wide range of conditions. I wore it almost every day during the two-week passage; it helped keep me warm under my foul weather gear up north and was just right over a T-shirt at night to keep the chill off as we approached the islands. $275, www.atlantisweathergear.com
