Charitable Programs Aid Vets, Students

The Moorings and Offshore Sailing School are teaming up to host an event for wounded veterans and students.

The Moorings and Offshore Sailing School have joined forces to host a January 2016 charter for members of the Wounded Veterans Retreat Program established by retired Command Sgt. Maj. Nelson Corbin. The program Corbin founded more than four years ago provides wounded veterans and their families with activity-based retreats throughout the United States and the world.

Corbin, an Offshore graduate, will accompany a group of wounded veterans to the Moorings flagship base in the British Virgin Islands for a week aboard a 4600 catamaran to teach the fundamentals of team sailing. Steve Colgate, co-founder of Offshore, the official Moorings sailing school, helped Corbin secure the trip by initiating the donation of the catamaran. In October 2015, Offshore Sailing School hosted a regatta for the Wounded Veterans Adaptive Sailing Program, part of Corbin’s Veterans Retreat Program, at its Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina on Fort Myers Beach, Florida.

Offshore also ran a free team-building program for students from the Cypress Lake Middle School sailing team in Fort Myers, Florida, in July 2015.
