Flotillas-a group of sailboats plus a lead boat cruising an itinerary that offers as much or as little group socializing as individual crews desire-have long been a feature of Sunsail Sailing Vacations, and they’ve been especially popular with the company’s British and European clientele.

Now Sunsail is rolling out a 2008 flotilla program geared to the tastes of the North American vacationing sailor, with one- and two-week itineraries scheduled in the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and the Mediterranean. Sailing regions include the British Virgin Islands, the Abacos, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Greece’s Peloponnesus peninsula and neighboring islands.

According to Josephine Tucci, Sunsail brand manager, the program is meant to appeal to lake sailors, beginning sailors, first-time charterers, and sailors who prefer the security of having a lead crew always on hand. For details, contact the company (www.sunsail.com).

Travel + Leisure Readers Give The Moorings Top Spot
The Moorings charter company is rated a top tour operator by Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards 2007 readers’ survey. The 12th annual survey honors winners in such categories as Cities, Hotels, Islands, Airlines, Cruise Lines, Tour Operators, Safari Outfitters, and Car-Rental Agencies.

Tour operators were evaluated according to six criteria: staff/guides, itineraries/destinations, activities, accommodations, food, and value. The Moorings placed high enough among these characteristics to be voted as one of the Top 15 tour operators and safari outfitters.

“This year’s results underline T+L readers’ ever-increasing embrace of global travel in their search for distinctive and authentic experiences,” said Nancy Novogrod, the editor in chief of Travel + Leisure. Harris Interactive conducted the survey for the editors of Travel + Leisure during the first quarter of 2007. View the complete list of World’s Best Awards 2007 on the Travel + Leisure website (www.travelandleisure.com/worldsbest); the winners are also featured in Travel + Leisure’s August 2007 issue.
