If visions of sailing in the tropics are dancing in your head this holiday season, all that may be holding you back is securing a plane ticket. According to Dick Schoonover, of CharterPort BVI, there’s still some chartering availability for Christmas week 2007, though New Year’s week is all but booked. “We’re equipped to do VISA and MasterCard, so yes, in theory, folks could walk right down the dock and charter a boat,” Schoonover says. “I think flights are the big hindrance now.”
CharterPort BVI is based in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and also represents boats out of other island locations, including St. Martin and the Bahamas. The agency offers fully crewed yachting vacations on monohulls ranging from 50 to 95 feet and on multihulls from 40 to 105 feet. Every boat comes with a fully licensed captain and a professional chef.
