Inflatable-PFD/harness cartridges may or may not be confiscated at U.S. airport security, depending upon the discretion of the individual airlines, and the evnts of September 11 will certainly have some bearing on the decision. Title 49 CFR 175.10a (25) of the U.S. Transportation Departments (DOT) Regulations of the Office of Hazardous Materials Safety (http://hasmat.dot.gov) states: “With approval of the aircraft operator, one small carbon-dioxide cylinder fitted into a self-inflating life jacket, plus one spare cartridge, may be carried by a passenger or crewmember in checked or carry-on baggage.”
