It’s not Olympic gold, but we’re still proud of the performance CW authors turned in at the biggest U.S. contest for marine writers. When the prizes were handed out, _CW _swept the Boating Travel or Destinations category; several contributors took home plaques for first-, second-, or third-place finishes, and CW had at least one award winner in 11 out of 17 categories.

The contest attracted 134 writers submitting 352 entries and four active marine journalists judged each category. Boating Travel or Destinations category chair Michael Sciulla, said the first place entry, “Magic & Mystery in Micronesia” by Alvah Simon (November 2009), had “A great lead, attention to detail, insight, perspective and affection for its subjects … a must read.” Alvah’s “Vanuatu: Explosive, Exotic, Exciting” (Feburary 2009) took second place, and “On One Boat, Three Stories Unfold” by Herb McCormick, Angus Phillips and Elaine Lembo (August 2009) completed the sweep. We agree with Michael Sciulla. All of CW‘s award winning stories are “must reads,” and here they are.
