Tunes Time: Turtle Shell Bluetooth Speaker

A Bluetooth speaker solves the problem of where to mount cockpit speakers.

One piece of kit that was seriously missing from our sailboat was speakers in the cockpit. From time to time I toyed with the idea of installing a pair, but the only practical location would be in the cockpit well. Our previous boat had a set mounted in a similar spot and it always bothered me that we had two large holes in an area that could possibly be prone to flooding.

The Turtle Shell Bluetooth speaker from Outdoor Tech proved to be a very viable alternative to drilling gaping holes in perfectly good fiberglass. The rugged, water-resistant speaker has 16 hours of playtime between charging and can operate up to 30 or so feet away from an iPhone or iPad. The device can also be paired with our stereo via a speaker cord.

Now we have music where we want it instead of having to crank the volume in the cabin, and better yet, we can take our tunes down the dock or even into the inflatable for a jazzed up sundowner harbor cruise.
