Piers Park Sailing Center Launches Boat Donation Initiative

Partnership with Block Island Maritime Funding will Support Free Sailing Programs for Kids

Piers Park Sailing Center, a community sailing center in East Boston, has entered into agreement with Block Island Maritime Funding to begin a boat donation program in order to raise much-needed operating funds. The fundraising initiative is targeted towards individuals who have experienced difficulty in selling their boats or don’t want the hassle of a private sale. Proceeds from the sale or charter of boats will be used to support the operations of the center and its free sailing programs for kids.

Piers Park Sailing Center will accept almost any type of vessel, sail or power, as long as it is in seaworthy condition. Some of the boats will be used directly in their programs, while others will be chartered or sold at below market rates. Donors to Piers Park Sailing Center will be advised by Block Island Maritime Funding on all elements of a donation, including the significant tax advantages. The savings an individual can realize on their taxes can approach the market value of their boat, since the sailing center and Block Island Maritime Funding are 501 (c) 3 non-profit organizations.

“Piers Park Sailing Center has been fortunate to receive a few boat donations in the past that have been great additions to our fleet,” said Jeff Kuller, executive director of Piers Park Sailing Center. “Now, with fundraising such a high priority we are excited about partnering with such a like-minded organization. Block Island Maritime Funding has the expertise to facilitate major donations for us.”
