Chicago’s lakefront is about to get a major upgrade for visiting boaters. After years of planning and development, Navy Pier Marina is officially set to open in June 2025, becoming the first and only transient marina with direct access to Navy Pier and downtown Chicago.
For Great Lakes cruisers, this new facility represents a game-changing waypoint—offering everything from flexible mooring and concierge service to shorepower, Wi-Fi, and a front-row seat to one of the country’s most iconic waterfronts.
“What an incredible and exciting day for me, my family, and our entire development team,” said Randy D. Podolsky, the Chicago native, longtime boater, and visionary behind the project. “We persevered and are now able to bring long-awaited recreational boater access to Navy Pier.”
Designed for Visiting Cruisers—and More
Navy Pier Marina will offer broadside (side-tie) mooring for vessels up to 183 feet in length, with options for hourly tie-ups, overnight stays, or longer visits. A two-story amenities building—constructed from upcycled shipping containers—will feature showers, laundry, a boater’s lounge, ship’s store, restrooms, and even a pet relief station.
Beyond recreational boaters, the marina will offer limited space for seasonal commercial operations including fishing charters, sailing schools, boat clubs, and other on-the-water experiences.
For groups and flotillas, the location couldn’t be more ideal: Downtown attractions, waterfront dining, and cultural experiences like Chicago Shakespeare Theater and the Children’s Museum are all steps away.
Chicago International Boat Show to Debut in August
The marina will also host the inaugural Chicago International Boat Show, set for August 21–24, 2025. Produced by Revel Republic—organizers of the Newport Beach and San Diego International Boat Shows—the event promises a lineup of luxury yachts, innovative watercraft, fine automotive brands, private aviation, and top-shelf culinary offerings.
