Henri-Lloyd, one of Britain’s most storied marine apparel brands, is back in the U.S. market, choosing Newport, Rhode Island, as its new home base. The brand’s products are now available at Big Weather Gear on Thames Street, the longtime shop formerly known as Helly Hansen Newport.
Owned by Jay Lasky for more than three decades, the store has expanded its lineup of premium gear and rebranded as Big Weather Gear to better reflect its broader offering. The addition of Henri-Lloyd brings one of sailing’s most iconic names back to American shores.
“Henri-Lloyd is one of the most iconic names in sailing and bringing it back to Newport feels like the perfect homecoming,” said Jay Lasky, owner of Big Weather Gear. “Our customers have been asking for gear that blends true performance with timeless style, and Henri-Lloyd delivers exactly that, from the deck of a racing yacht to the docks of Thames Street.”
Founded in Manchester, England, in 1963, Henri-Lloyd pioneered modern sailing apparel and continues to set the standard for performance, style, and sustainability. Today’s collection ranges from rugged foul-weather jackets and technical offshore gear to lifestyle pieces such as rugby shirts, sweaters, and outerwear designed for life on and off the water.
The partnership with Big Weather Gear launched online in August 2025 at BigWeatherGear.com, with a full in-store debut planned for summer 2026 at 154 Thames Street.
For sailors and coastal enthusiasts alike, the brand’s Newport debut offers a new way to gear up with premium apparel built to perform offshore and ashore.
