The search for a sailboat missing off the coast of North Carolina has so far turned up nothing. At 3:30 a.m. Monday, the Coast Guard responded to an EPIRB signal transmitted from Flying Colors, a 54-foot sloop carrying a crew of four from St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., to Annapolis, Maryland.
All four crewmembers are natives of Rhode Island, and two, Patrick Topping, 39, and Jason Franks, 34, have captains licenses. The boat’s last known position was about 160 miles southeast of Cape Lookout, North Carolina.
