Quick Look: Friendship 53

Cruising World 2008 New Boat Showcase
Friendship Yachts

Described by its designer, Ted Fontaine, as being “slightly larger” than the Friendship 40 daysailer that inspired it, the Friendship 53 has also assumed an expanded mission. As well as promoting its talents for uplifting the Sunday sunset experience, Fontaine praises its enhanced capabilities for coastal cruising. Given a water capacity of 270 gallons, it could cruise to a distant coast without need for replenishment.

It’s hardly surprising that a sailor enamored of the Friendship 40 would want a bigger vessel with the same grace of line and ambience of the golden age.

Belowdecks, the added volume provides a second stateroom, a roomy saloon, and a galley of caterers’ proportions. Topside, the equipment is of a quality and caliber to match the top-notch niche this yacht inhabits.
