Excess Catamarans has announced a new hybrid propulsion option for its popular 37-foot model, the Excess 11. Starting in summer 2025, buyers will be able to equip the boat with a hybrid system that pairs twin electric motors with a diesel generator.

The new setup allows for quiet maneuvering and the option to cruise under electric power alone, while still offering extended range thanks to the generator backup. It’s a practical step toward lower-emission, lower-noise sailing without giving up the convenience of reliable auxiliary power.

The Excess 11, the smallest model in the builder’s lineup, is known for its responsive helm, smart use of space, and clean, modern design. The new hybrid option doesn’t change any of that—it just adds a propulsion choice for sailors looking to reduce their carbon footprint or simply enjoy a quieter time on the water.

Excess says the same hybrid technology will be available soon aboard its next model, the Excess 13, currently in development.
