Quick Look: Sensei 9M

Alvah Simon reviews this sleek new weekender for the 2010 Cruising World Sailboat Show in our January 2010 issue
Sensei

Designed by Felci of Italy and manufactured by Evreka Marine of Turkey, the Sensei 9M is a sleek and sultry weekender designed to please the eye. Although well canvased with a composite, high-roach main on a fractional rig, it makes no pretense of being a complex or competitive racer, as witnessed by the simplified tiller helm station, traveler-free mainsheet, and self-tacking jib. However, due to its lean lines, ultralight displacement, and deep appendages, the 9M is close-winded, quick, responsive, and enormously fun to sail. The cored hull, infused vinylester with carbon-fiber reinforcements, reflects the latest in building materials and techniques. The deck layout is clean and the cockpit spacious enough for a family’s day out. The interior is snug and simple yet complete with galley, head, and even holding tank. With its emphasis on European styling and sailing simplicity, this new immigrant should attract attention in the weekender market.
