These are now the longest days of the year, and up here at 45 degrees north latitude, halfway from equator to pole, there’s daylight in plenty. A good thing, too, since we were trying to make good time east along the coast.
This was seafaring at it’s finest—rising wind, pea-soup fog, some horror called “Bear Rock” under our lee, and closing fast with a rock-bound shore using a chart drawn before the war of 1812.
Community Boating Center in Providence, RI will host its “Renaissance Regatta” annual fundraiser to benefit inner-city sailing programs on July 18. Sponsors are invited to

The 12th annual Women’s Sailing Conference presented by the National Women’s Sailing Association took place at the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead, Massachusetts on a sunny Saturday, June 1. At breakfast and lunch meetings, participants swapped stories and resources. Then they dug in at several hands-on sessions.
The annual Women’s Sailing Conference attracts an energetic and diverse group eager to explore more.
After a blustery stay in Provincetown, Massachusetts, the Zartman family has an uneventful crossing to Nova Scotia—and experiences some Canadian hospitality on the way.
The Zartman family aboard Ganymede ends their yearlong stay in Newport, Rhode Island, and is cruising once again.
“Ready to go yet?” I heard the question over and over today. Fair enough—we’ve been ‘getting ready to cruise’ ever since leaving the boatyard several blog posts ago, and have Tuesday as our target sailing date.
Now, finally, all the work we’d had to put off until “after the boatyard” could begin.
