After losing his rudder in 40 knot winds and high seas 400 miles south of Cold Bay, Alaska, a French sailor called for rescue. The U.S. Coast Guard dispatched a C-130 airplane to assess the situation and determine the best course of action. The airplane caught this video after hailing a nearby commercial oil ship to help rescue the stranded vessel. Too hard to see in the video is the sailor’s cat, tucked safely inside his jacket; it is reported that both the sailor and his feline companion are alive and well.
