Make This Season a Safe One

Safety courses by U.S. Power Squadrons can help your family minimize risks on the water

You may not have known it, but we’re in the middle of National Safe Boating Week (May 19 to May 25). To mark the occasion, U.S. Power Squadrons will be sponsoring seminars and demonstrations across the country.

National Safe Boating Week is the perfect time to sign the whole family up for summer boating courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Topics covered include boat handling, gear, and choosing and using the proper type of life jacket.

The new USPS University offers a comprehensive Boat Operator Certification program, which is comparable to a U.S. Coast Guard license for nonprofessional recreational boaters. It’s also comparable to the international Certificate of Competency that’s now required across much of Europe.

Fewer than one out of every 10 recreational boaters have ever completed a safe boating course, and USPS would like to change that. You can learn more about USPS at www.usps.org. For more details on National Safe Boating Week, consult www.safeboatingcampaign.com
