2014 new boat showcase

Contest 42CS

Drop by the dock at the end of any ocean-crossing rally and you’re likely to find a Contest in the fleet. For a half-century, this yard in the Netherlands has been building bluewater cruisers; its newest, the 42CS, is just a little sleeker than its center-cockpit siblings. The Contest 42 is part of Cruising World‘s 2014 New Boat Showcase.

Alerion 41

The latest Alerion to join the growing family of gorgeous-to-look-at and glorious-to-sail daysailers is the 41. But this new model takes things a step further with standing headroom and staterooms for two couples, making it an easy-to-handle coastal cruiser that will still turn heads. The Alerion 41 is part of Cruising World‘s 2014 New Boat Showcase.

Hylas 63

The latest offering from Hylas is this powerful 63-footer designed by Germán Frers and built in Taiwan by Queen Long Marine. The nearly plumb bow and robust stern sections maximize the yacht’s waterline length, making for a fast, seakindly ride in any and all conditions.

Atlantic 47 Mastfoil

With nearly 50 Atlantic series catamarans roaming the seas, Chris White’s designs have evolved. Still, the new 47 — sporting twin MastFoils (think narrow wings) and dual furling jibs — is akin to the jump man made from apes. Let’s call this a whole new species of ocean-going cat.

Balance 421

Multihull Company founder Phil Berman has sailed and sold many a catamaran. With customer feedback, he’s launched the Balance line, with a 42-footer on the way and a 45-footer to follow. These are for bluewater voyagers and liveaboards who will appreciate a lively sail.

Bavaria Vision 42

The design brief for the Vision 42 is clear: It’s meant to be an upscale sailboat for a cruising couple. Below, there are two cabins, an owner’s stateroom forward and a guest room aft. Topsides, the captain has plenty of room to work while the crew can relax on the fold-down daybed. The Bavaria Vision 42 is part of Cruising World’s 2014 New Boat Showcase.

Beneteau Oceanis 38

Looking for a daysailer? Weekender? Full-on cruiser? Whichever you choose, the Oceanis 38’s layout ranges from a minimalist open loft below to a traditional three-cabin design. You pick the options that go into an easy-to-handle hull from Finot-Conq Architects. Click here to read more.

Beneteau Oceanis 55

With a stylish arch, hard chines and low-profile coach roof, the Oceanis 55 is both powerful under sail and large enough below to suit your needs.

Corsair Cruze 970

Want to dance across the waves? The Cruze 970 might be the perfect craft to do it in. Corsair has replaced its very successful C31 tri (more than 300 built) with one that offers standing headroom in the saloon and creature comforts throughout. So breeze up, sprit out? Let her rip. The Corsair Cruz 970 is part of Cruising World‘s 2014 New Boat Showcase.

Dufour 500 Grand’ Large

As befits the flagship of the line, the 500 Grand’ Large sports the bells and whistles you’d expect to find on an oceangoing 50-footer. Elegant and innovative below, with a galley forward of the saloon, the 500’s slippery-looking hull supports a rig that promises a rollicking good sail. Click here to read more.
