2014 new boat showcase

Friendship 36

Designer Ted Fountaine has allegedly caused whiplash in several harbors with his sweet line of head-turning Friendships. The latest, the 36, is a shoal-draft centerboarder designed for a customer eager to sail the shallow bays around his home. Purpose built, and lovely too. The Friendship 36 is part of Cruising World‘s 2014 New Boat Showcase.

Gunboat 55

Gunboat modestly lays claim to creating the high-performance cruising cat genre, and the 55, designed by Nigel Irens and built at the company’s new North Carolina yard, fits right in. This is an owner-operated series, building on the success of the Gunboat 48. The Gunboat 55 is part of Cruising World‘s 2014 New Boat Showcase.

J/88

The team at J/Boats is incapable of producing a slow, boring boat, and this new 29-footer is ideal for fast, family-oriented daysailing and racing, as well as weekend getaways. Belowdecks, there’s a pair of full-length settee berths, a private head forward and an optional V-berth.

Lipari 41 Evolution

Many evolutionary features promote gracious living on this revamped catamaran from Fountaine-Pajot. Among them are a fresh cockpit treatment that joins the galley and saloon directly to the outdoor living spaces, and large windows in the aft cabins for natural light below.

Morris M46

The fifth in Morris‘ M Series of sailboats designed by Sparkman & Stephens, the M46 is a handsome, traditional-looking yacht with a sweeping sheer line, gentle tumblehome, sweet reverse transom and an understated cabin house. Twin cabins with en suite heads await belowdecks.

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 469

Available in either three- or four-cabin versions, the newest member of the Sun Odyssey family is this Philippe Briand-designed 46-footer, which comes with either a shoal-draft 5’5″ keel, or a deep, long-legged 7’4″ fin. With twin wheels and all lines led aft, she’s also a joy to sail. The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 469 is part of Cruising World‘s 2014 New Boat Showcase.

Hunter 40

Naval architect Glenn Henderson teamed up with the Marlow-Hunter design team to draft the lines for this sleek and versatile 40-footer, which comes equipped with a long list of standard features including a full safety package with flares, fire extinguishers and even an air horn. The Hunter 40 is part of Cruising World‘s 2014 New Boat Showcase.

Hanse 345

With a wide range of interior woods, upholstery and hull colors from which to choose, the Hanse 345 offers an unusual degree of customization for a boat in this size range. You can also opt for identical twin aft cabins, a rare layout for a pocket cruiser under 35 feet. The Hanse 345 is part of Cruising World‘s 2014 New Boat Showcase.

Gunboat 60

The Gunboat 60 is the third in a series of 60- to 70-foot performance cruising catamarans. The goal was to pack the amenities found in the Gunboat 62 and 66 into a slightly smaller — and faster — package. The 60 was designed by Nigel Irens for family cruising and charter. The Gunboat 60 is part of Cruising World‘s 2014 New Boat Showcase.
