Thirty-six boats and 172 sailors from 17 countries set sail from Sint Maarten on May 9, beginning a 3,745-nautical-mile transatlantic rally to Lagos, Portugal.

Hundreds of sailors kicked off the 40th ARC in Las Palmas with a flag parade and weeklong countdown to the transatlantic start.
