Knysna Yacht Company has announced the Knysna 550, a 55-foot bespoke bluewater catamaran built for extended offshore passages and designed in collaboration with VDS Marine Design. The boat makes its public debut at the Annapolis Boat Show from Oct. 15 to 18, where prospective owners can step aboard for the first time. The Knysna 550 will also be a Cruising World Boat of the Year 2027 nominee.

The 550 builds on the proven platform of the Knysna 500, introducing sharper exterior lines, wave-piercing bows and enhanced structural integrity. Bulkheads, panels and partitions are chemically bonded directly to the hulls and deck, a construction approach aimed at maximizing stiffness and offshore performance rather than shaving build costs. Displacement comes in at 19.6 tonnes, with 1,000 liters each of fuel and fresh water capacity for genuine self-sufficiency on long passages. The raised, protected helm station keeps the watch-keeper out of the worst of the weather while maintaining clear visibility over the deck.

The boat is offered in two primary configurations: the 550SL Sky Lounge, featuring an elevated sky lounge for extended cruising; and the 550SE Solar Explorer, with additional deck space optimized for solar panels and offshore systems. Belowdecks, owners choose between three or four double en-suite cabins, with joinery, fabrics, appliances and technology specified directly with the Knysna build team.

The 550 has been shortlisted for both World Multihull of the Year 2026 and Cruising World’s Boat of the Year 2027 ahead of its official launch—a notable recognition for a boat that had not yet made its public debut.
