The story of the controversial voyage of Laura Dekker, the Dutch sailor who, at the age of 16, became the youngest person to solo-circumnavigate the globe, is told in the documentary Maidentrip, opening at the IFC Center in New York City on January 17, 2014. American director Jillian Schlesinger and producer Emily McAllister teamed up with Laura at the start of her voyage to capture the loveliness and loneliness, serenity and savagery of single-handing the high seas. This coming of age” film has already garnished the SXSW Audience Award and the Directors Award at the Mountain Film Festival in Telluride. For details log on to the movie website, maidentrip.com.
