Sailing and Stretching

Cruiser Pat Henry has developed a stretching program for sailors.

Singlehander Pat Henry departed Acapulco, Mexico, aboard her 31-foot Southern Cross in 1989. With $300 in her pocket, she took off, and under way became an artist who painted watercolors at every landfall. Eight years and a completed solo circumnavigation later, Henry recounted the tale in By the Grace of the Sea.

Fast forward to today. Pat, 72, still paints, but she also enjoys the benefits of flexibility and energy from the practice called Organic Stretching. And she’s developed a program for cruising sailors as they prepare to depart each spring from Bahía de Banderas, near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Her voyage would have been safer and more comfortable had she stretched, she says.
