MaxSea Navigation Equipment Helps Win 2006 Newport-Bermuda Race

Furuno's latest software offers up-to-date weather and performance data

Navigator Mike Koster used MaxSea navigation software to guide the Beneteau First 44.7 Four Stars to first place in the IRC division in the 2006 Newport Bermuda Race.

Developed by Furuno, MaxSea navigation software provides weather routing and performance modules, along with a third party weather acquisition package and satellite phone to download up-to-date weather data. Over the past two years, Koster underwent MaxSea training with Gary Senft of Maritime Navigation & Communications, Inc., where he learned how to make necessary and effective strategic navigation decisions utilizing the software. Senft also went onboard Four Stars for last minute consulting the day of the race to ensure that skipper Timothy McAdams and Koster had MaxSea’s weather routing and performance modules up and running.
