Companies Aid Stranded Charterers

Financial disputes between GPSC Charters Ltd., of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and GPSC Yachts, of Athens, Greece, have forced the closure of the two companies, but clients who’ve booked charters will find many efforts under way to salvage their sailing vacations.

Alex and Agapi Kapsabelis, who ran the office for GPSC Yachts in Athens, have struck out on their own as Destinations Greece (+30-210-9850004/5, www.greece-yachtcharters.com and info@destinationsgreece.gr). This company has contacted clients who’d booked through GPSC Charters in Philadelphia and is offering trips at “below-net prices” as well as deals on skippered charters, according to Alex Kapsabelis, general manager.

“We’re doing our best to salvage all the charters,” he said. Charters will take place aboard the former GPSC fleet, which includes a total of 35 monohulls from 32 to 65 feet of mixed designs, including Beneteau, Bavaria, and Dufour. Kapsabelis urged any client who’s booked a trip in Greece and is concerned about its status to contact him.

The Moorings (888-703-3176) and Sunsail (800-797-5307) are also helping out. Clients should identify themselves as CW readers who had trouble with a GPSC charter. Case by case, the companies will extend partial credit for money lost and attempt to rebook a trip, subject to availability.
