Sailors ready for shoreside amenities after exploring the remote islands of the Southern Bahamas will find plenty to do in Long Island and San Salvador, the island where Christopher Columbus made his first landfall in the New World in 1492.

We checked out the damage caused by Hurricane Joaquin, a category four storm that hit the islands hard just seven months earlier. After many months, San Salvador and Long Island have recovered well from the storm. People are back in their homes, hotels are completing renovations and most businesses have their doors open. Life, thankfully, is getting back to normal for both residents and visitors.
