Caribbean’s First Designer Cookie Now on the Shelves

The Caribbean’s first branded designer cookie company, Blue Angel Dippers, was launched early in August. Headquartered in a sky-blue West Indian-style cottage overlooking Grand Bay, on tiny Canouan, one of St. Vincent’s Grenadine Islands, the gourmet cookie line is “celestially themed and ready to fly,” according to managing director Dan Devlin.

“Inspiration rooted in our sweet cravings were the thrust behind brand names like Heavenly White Chunky Chocolate & Macadamia Nuts, Eclipse Chocolate Biscotti, and Oatmeal Raisin Starbars to name a few,” explains Devlin’s partner, Pamala Baldwin. Sailing the Caribbean from the Bahamas to Venezuela on their yacht, the American duo devoted two years to finding the right location, fulfilling a market niche and developing the product line.

While cruising the islands, former Restaurant and food critic for Morris Newspapers in America, Baldwin’s sophisticated palate for gourmet food was at an all-time high and Devlin’s hungry-man appetite for confections was never met. The couple was constantly searching for something indulgent, affordable, and sweet but found little to satisfy their cravings, and that’s why Blue Angel Dippers came to be. There are a dozen products in the line of handmade cookies, ranging up to 2.5 ounces each. They will also introduce cookie chunks called Moon Rocks in half- and one-pound bags.

Blue Angel Dippers represent many firsts, namely they are Canouan’s first manufacturer; Dan & Pamala are the island’s first nonresort-related residents (until now, the four-square-mile island’s claim to fame has been the five-star Carenage Golf & Beach Resort); and they are the Caribbean’s sole branded gourmet cookie producer. The company is also making custom logo Dippers for corporate clientele.
