Pocket Cruisers to Gather on Alabama Gulf Coast

A group of pocket cruisers and other small boats will meet April 12-15, 2002, for a weekend of sailing fun known as the Backwater Environmental Escape Rendezvous (B.E.E.R.) Cruise. The internet-based group of trailer sailors, which regularly meets at various places around the country, reportedly had boats from seven states at the last event in Pensacola Florida. The April event has boats signed up from as far away as Canada.

This cruise will be taking place in the Orange Beach, Alabama, area, covering the Perdido Bay, Wolf Bay, and Ingram anchorage. The cruising grounds will be perfect for small daysailers up to the largest vessel that fit on a trailer. Skippers who will be returning for the Dauphin Island Regatta will have the option of leaving their boat in an anchorage off Wolf Bay or on a trailer in the same area. If you choose to leave your boat in the area, it will be at your own risk, so please keep an eye on the weather.

This is not a sanctioned or sponsored event, so each skipper will be responsible for his or her own vessel. The B.E.E.R. Cruise is simply a gathering of like-minded sailors who wish to enjoy the fellowship of each other and the enjoyment of sailing.
