Women Boaters Go Online

BoatUS.com Launches Women’s Only Web Site

Women make up half of the nation’s work force and many are now earning higher incomes than ever before. Recognizing this and understanding that growing numbers of women are entering recreational boating, BoatU.S. has launched an online women’s specialty site, BoatUS.com/women, just in time for the boating season. The site, which includes a Women’s Store with female-only sizes, was created as a resource for women interested in boating and to help locate events, products, or other organizations.

Features on the site include an interactive opinion survey, articles by and about women and boating, a discussion forum where women can post topics or questions, and even an area for women to take up saltwater sportfishing. A click away is the BoatU.S. OnLine Boating Course so women can test their level of knowledge and also find boating courses near them.

The Women’s Store contains scores of items, from sailing gloves to dozens of styles of sporty shoes and books by and for women boaters. Coming soon to the site is a women’s fitting guide for selecting the right size foul weather suits and gloves.

“BoatU.S. has long supported programs to encourage more women to take up boating,” said Elaine Dickinson, managing editor of BoatU.S. Magazine and a member of the National Womens Sailing Association’s Board of Directors. “And we’ve heard our women members loud and clear when they say all they want is a set of foul weather gear that fits,” she continued. “The store, as well as the rest of the features at the women’s site, reflect the reality that women are a significant part of boating, and are becoming more so with each passing year.”
