Cruising World and Sailing World
Announce Nominees for the 2006 Boat of the Year Awards

Newport, RI–The list of nominees is out for the highly anticipated 2006 Cruising World and Sailing World Boat of the Year awards. The magazines announced which new sailboats are under consideration during a press conference October 6 at the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland.

This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the awards from Sailing World, while it has been 12 years since Cruising World added its honors. Each magazine will name a Boat of the Year, considered the highest honor in the industry, as well as awards in several other categories.

Cruising World nominated 26 boats in seven categories: Production Cruisers 31 to 36 Feet, Production Cruisers 35 to 39 Feet, Production Cruisers 40 to 44 Feet, Performance Cruisers Over 45 Feet, Full-Size Cruisers, Unlimited, and Cruising Catamarans. The overall Boat of the Year will be one of the winners from these categories. Sailing World is considering 15 models for Boat of the Year: the BigFish, Blade Formula 16, Bruckmann Daysailer, C&C 115, Corsair Sprint 750, Gunboat 48, Musto Performance Skiff, Reynolds 33, Rocket 22, RS Feva, Salona 45, Swan 46, Wyliecat 44, X-37, and X-46.

Any model introduced to the North American market between the 2004 and 2005 Annapolis Boat Shows is eligible, and builders could enter boats in the contests of both magazines. Judges scrutinized the latest boats at the Newport Boat Show and during the opening days of the Annapolis show. They considered design, construction, seaworthiness, performance, purpose of the boat, fitness for the use intended, and cost.

Two independent judging panels will evaluate and test boats for the respective magazines. The Cruising World awards will focus on production boats laid out and equipped for coastal and offshore cruising and voyaging. Judges on the Sailing World panel will concentrate on boats designed and built with racing in mind.
