Stolen Sailboat

Update: Two Duped Sailboat Theft Suspects Released

Two of the three people arrested in connection with the theft of a luxury sailboat from Sausalito were freed Wednesday after prosecutors concluded they hadn’t known the vessel was stolen and thought they were going on a late-night party cruise.

Local and state police gather on the beach as they negotiate with three suspects that onboard a stolen yacht. An 82-foot sailboat stolen from the Sausalito Yacht Harbor ran aground at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, CA, Monday March 4th, 2013.

Luxury Yacht Stolen in Sausalito – Three Held

Two men and a woman packed pizza and beer aboard a luxury sailboat in a Sausalito marina, stole it in the middle of the night and made it as far as Pacifica before the vessel ran aground 20 yards off a beach Monday.

Preparing for a Pacific Voyage

Trepidation. I get antsy in the days just before I go offshore. There’s so much mental preparation. I leave October 2nd for a six week research expedition aboard the SSV Robert C. Seamans, a 134 ft. schooner brigantine operated by Sea Education Association to explore “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch.”

An interesting aspect of marine weather/wind forecasts is the nature, or pattern, of the air flow. Out at sea, air masses flow uninterrupted by changing topography--an additional contributor to chaos. This results in consistent flows over large geographic areas. In this PassageWeather.com screenshot, note the difference in wind direction and strength over land and sea (this is the entire coastline of the Baja California peninsula).

Weather Aware

I can’t think of a lifestyle that would keep me more in tune with the weather than the cruising lifestyle.

It ain't like closing the loop on a circumnavigation or anything, but sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge was a big deal for the Robertson family, and especially Windy.
